WE ARE MORE we are not machines at the whim of those We are meant to Yet we risk becoming when we neglect to don our own helmets, that our bodies are tools and they define our worth that our minds are fragile limited in capability and lacking in competence that success is only possible by neglecting our truest forms, and our own achievement must be snatched from another whether by force or simple acceptance We now step above these notions on our way to the top

A Conversation with Dionna Carter

Where did your poetry journey begin? I’ve always struggled to verbally express my emotions. Thankfully, I believe I was given an innate sense to write and emote through the written word. I remember being in elementary school and writing a poem to my mom for Mother’s Day - I also remember how she cried when she read it and seeing the power that words hold to provoke emotion is something that has stayed with me. What is a core theme of ‘Legacy’, and what called you to write about it?

Meet Dionna Carter

We were lucky to catch up with Dionna Carter recently and have shared our conversation below. Dionna , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with education – we’d love to hear your thoughts about how we can better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career. I have a major fear of failure. This, paired with my unrealistically high expectations of myself, has at times invoked strong feelings of self-doubt and anxiety, and made it difficult to purs

Roots | Issue One

It used to be the vigorous wind dancing around my house the ballerina pitter-patter of rain on my window the morning welcome on my white canvas walls but now… now it’s unfamiliar scenes, painted vividly through her words. Who can climb up the guava tree the quickest?! How many stacks of feet can you jump over?! Who’s got the marbles?! Hilarious stories of falls and sabotage. She’d explain how her favourite game was hopscotch, except she’d called it kit-kit, and she’d draw the numb

Conversations with Dionna Carter - Voyage Ohio Magazine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dionna Carter. Hi Dionna, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today? Have you ever had a friendship that seems to have always existed? As much as you try to figure out how it all began, a singular origin story doesn’t exist outside of, “We’ve been friends since childhood.” This has been my relationship with fashion and writing. As far

2017 Spring Fashion Color Palette

Following a season of dreary skies and muted colors, many are anticipating the greeting of spring with its newness of life and invigorating colors. The release of each fashion powerhouse’s spring collection determines what colors we’ll be sporting in the upcoming season. This year, the runways have spoken and their stories made one thing clear: almost anything goes. Earthy shades converged with vibrant tones to give us a full range of colors running the gamut of, well, the rainbow itself.

Follow the Leader and Other Childhood Games

As a child, one of the best parts of the school day was recess. When the time came, it was a stampede to the playground. Some kids veered straight for the slide and monkey bars, not hesitating to knock over any innocent bystander who might impede them. The more introverted group might have been inclined to grab a pleasure reading book on the way out the class and cozy up in a secret spot to read (I was totally this kid). Fast forward 20 years and, thankfully, we’ve all matured to become sensible adults, capable of playing out our individual roles for the sake of the greater good. Or, have we?

Chic Style: Innovative Business Offers Locals a Wardrobe Facelift | CbusChic

There are five words virtually every woman has uttered in sheer exasperation while peering into her disappointing closet: “I have nothing to wear!” While the reality is pretty apparent – more often than not there is SOMETHING to be worn – the fact is, some may either be unsure how to style the pieces they currently own or they are just unsure of new items that should be purchased. It is during these moments that the stylists of Wardrobe Therapy become a kind of saving grace...

Chic Style: Cut from a Different Cloth | CbusChic

In the cutthroat world of fashion, hard feelings and fierce rejection tend to be common and expected by those seeking to infiltrate this segment of culture. Brave designers and models subject themselves to intense scrutiny that could very quickly make – or just as easily break – them in the industry. While some may consider these to be unavoidable occupational hazards, Columbus is home to a unique non-profit that challenges this status quo.

Chic Style: Baby, It’s Cold Outside | CbusChic

Many rave about the fall and the plethora of options this season offers from a stylistic perspective. The wide range in temperature allows women to wear just about everything in their closets. Yet, once the thermometer takes a nosedive and the only logical option is to bundle up, variability seems to go out the door. For those who struggle with wanting to stay warm AND fashionable know that these two concepts are not mutually exclusive.
